Local visual artists worked with schools and community groups over three years to create a public arts installation, The Fantastical Creatures, inspired by the work of Mexican Alebrijes artist Pedro Linares.

The artistic process has enabled participants to create sculptural animals from across the world while learning about a country’s culture and traditions.

The exhibition features over 30 pieces of original artwork which forms part of The Fantasy Forest at the annual Belfast Mela.

“I believe this project had a positive effect on all who participated. The girls loved how their creations were made, from everyday recyclable products. They really enjoyed learning the techniques for the making of the structure and the art work that went along with the African culture”.
