Mayor's Parade 2011 - Lisburn - The City for Everyone
Posted: Monday 4th Apr 2011
Carnival fun is on its way to Lisburn once more as the Lisburn City Mayor’s Carnival Parade 2011 takes place on Saturday 9 April, followed by a Free Concert in Wallace Park by Joe McElderry and Jedward.
Carnival Parade 1-2pm
Bright mobile sculptures, technicoloured giant floats from international renowned carnival companies and stunning masqueraders are among the sights set to excite thousands of parade revelers. Getting your feet to the carnival beat will be an infectious surge of elaborately dressed dancers, samba, salsa, chinese lion dancing, bollywood performances and marching bands. Street performers and stilt walkers will delight and interact with Carnival Spectators as the Carnival Parade flows through the city’s streets.
One of the largest Carnival Parades of its kind in Northern Ireland, Mayor’s Carnival features the talents of over 800 local Schoolchildren, community and voluntary groups who have been busy making carnival structures, and costumes for the pageant through ISLAND Arts Centre’s Carnival Workshops.
Concert 3 - 6pm
Jedward, Joe McElderry and support acts will then perform at the Concert Arena at Wallace Park from 3pm with headline acts on stage from 4pm.
Admittance to the Arena will be strictly by allocated wristband. Children under 12 years of age are required to be accompanied by an adult.
Carnival Village at Wallace Park 12.30 - 6pm
A funfair, trade stalls plus a Family Activity Area for all ages will be a popular draw. (A wristband is required for entrance into Wallace Park on Sat 9 April).
A Delighted Mayor of Lisburn
The Mayor of Lisburn City Council, Alderman Paul Porter, said: "With the Carnival Parade, traditionally a very popular event and now the Wallace Park Concert, Lisburn City is anticipated to be very busy indeed on Saturday 9 April.
"We want spectators to have the opportunity to enjoy both the Carnival Parade through the City Centre and the Family Fun Day and Concert. To facilitate this year’s Concert, the Parade will not finish in Wallace Park but will return to Lagan Valley Island, giving people time to make their way to Wallace Park to enjoy the Concert and Family Fun Day.
"The major refurbishment at Wallace Park is nearing completion and I am delighted that the Family Fun Day and Concert will follow the Parade," said Alderman Porter.
"We are delighted to welcome Jedward and Joe McElderry to Lisburn City and are looking forward to an action packed, fun filled day on Saturday 9 April," concluded the Mayor.
